Hazard Communication: Know Your Chemicals

29 CFR 1910.1200 · 29 CFR 1926.59 · This talk in Spanish

Why it matters

Adhesives, solvents, fuels, form release, cutting fluids: a job site runs on chemicals, and every container has a story the label and safety data sheet tell. The unlabeled spray bottle is the one that burns someone. If you cannot name what is in it, do not use it.

Crew discussion questions

  1. What chemicals are on this site today and where are the SDS?
  2. Are there any unlabeled bottles or cans in the trailers or trucks right now?
  3. Which of today’s tasks happen in enclosed spaces where vapors collect?
  4. Where is the nearest eyewash or clean water source?
